David Feng is a visual artist working primarily with glass and ceramics. His practice revolves around the subtle territories of human emotion—vulnerability, self-containment, and the quiet tension between shelter and confinement. Using cats as emotional vessels, he translates feelings that are often difficult to articulate into tangible forms.
Some heartfelt thoughts
My artistic practice stems from my own difficulty with verbal expression. I primarily work with glass and clay to articulate the inarticulable—internal conflicts, unspoken affections, and complex emotions that defy description. I am drawn to the transformative nature of these materials and the kiln, a collaborator central to my process. The anxious anticipation before unloading the kiln is a ritual I cherish, one that embraces chance and metamorphosis.
This process allows me to explore fragility, observation, and the silent connections between humans, animals, and nature. By creating luminous objects, I seek not only to understand my own feelings but also to share this silent, radiant language of emotion with others.
